As always, well said Ethan.
Gianluca Migliarotti and Gennaro Formosa
Coming to Florence for the menswear trade shows is something I feel incredibly privileged to be able to do. It is a dynamic time with the hard work of some of the most creative and talented in the industry gets revealed to what is it’s potential first market. I get to see some amazing design work and hopefully buy the best of what is there for our customers back in Hong Kong.
But it is special for me in another way - the people we meet and stories we hear. I am still, appearances aside, a relatively young man, and have seen so little of the world that I hope to one day explore in full, but I can say that I have sat at tables and listened to conversations from absolute giants of tailoring and menswear. I have met all sorts of characters, some good, some bad, all passionate.
Gianluca Migliarotti is one that I really do treasure. The director of O’Mast is real, colourful and genuine, chain smoking cigars and telling stories of Napolitan thugs and famous New York actresses. Gianluca made his film out of passion, but a passion so genuine that it is part of him, not an affectation. He wears his Napolitan heritage on his sleeve so naturally that he can throw it off and laugh at it at times, and embrace it again so fully the next word.
O’Mast is a brilliant film, showing the people that make this industry work. The fortunes or misfortunes that brought them to the industry, the passion that has kept them there. It is a genuine film, made by someone with a genuine passion for the craft.
